This Is Me

Hi. I’m Matt. I live in the Midwest with my beautiful wife (go here, you’ll like it) and my amazing, precocious toddler daughter (she does not yet have a blog). I work in mental health counseling with kids, which is incredibly frustrating, funny, difficult and rewarding (sometimes all at once). I like to write, read, work out, play tennis, follow the St. Louis Cardinals in baseball and the Cincinnati Bengals in football. I like the number 3, can’t stand to be around spiders, don’t like roller coasters but do like the log rides (go figure). I believe in God, love, freedom, saving for a rainy day, and the power of random kindness. I’m apparently somewhat of a glutton for punishment since I repeatedly do the grocery shopping with my two-year-old and often agree to tag along with my wife when she shops for clothes. I like scary stuff and may be the biggest fan of Halloween in the world. I mean the holiday, but I like the movie as well (“I shot him six times!”). I was the lucky recipient of a successful kidney transplant in 2003, and my sister was the miracle-providing donor. (My health is very good now, and I’m grateful). Thanks for checking in. I’ll stop boring you now.

I found your blog through your wife’s and who knows how she found mine. Oh well, but I have to say that I’m so jealous! I’m so jealous of parents who have toddlers that have hair!! Okay so my little ones just started to grow but c’mon those pigtails are adorable. I’m so jealous.

You kind of stuck that “kidney transplant” thing in there in the same way you might say, “I love Oreos.” Agree completely regarding log rides. Your daughter is dreamy pretty. And seeing your pictures on the same page like this somehow turns the hot dog story into a video scene with a Bob Saget voice-over.

bibliomom, our daughter was extremely bald for quite some time. It will come!

Pama, I plan to blog on that eventually!

I’m curious, and this might be a bit much for a comment, but what exactly do you do in your work with children? I want to be an art therapist for children, so that is why I am curious.

Michelle, I do mental health therapy with kids who are having significant behavior problems at home/school. Indirectly, I work with the parents as well. I go into the schools or homes to see the kids. Art therapy would be a cool career.

Wow. Your wife and daughter are absolutely beautiful. My response to #3 doesn’t apply to them. Cheers!

I am from New England, so i can’t abide by all the “Go Cards!” comments, but I will say I love both yours and Allisons blogs! I have been trying to become more involved in my wordpress blogging experience (an extension of my myspace blog) and I’m glad we have crossed paths…:)

Awesome on the kidney transplant. I work in an endocrinology/nephrology clinic, so I find these things exciting! Happy glomerular filtration rates to you!

Your wife left a message on my blog that you are also a Ball State Alum! Go Cardinals!
I am glad I found your page. Quite funny. I also believe in random acts of kindness, so it’s nice to meet someone who feels the exact same way.

I look forward to stopping by again soon. Your baby is adorable, by the way. Quite a beautiful face!

Dude! You have a crapload of great reading here! You’re wife did a really poor job of promoting you until this Hooters blog…so now I’m hooked! I’m hooking you up on my blogroll! Great stuff!

Thank you for stopping by. What a very interesting read. I have a small suggestion for grocery/clothes shopping that might come in very handy: take your iPod with you, I’m told it dulls the pain, but have yet to try it out. Love how you slipped in the note about your kidney transplant, kind of a “oh hey and btw…” Continued health to you, lad. I don’t like spiders either (since coming to the States – we don’t have deadly spiders in Scotland), and they’re rampant here in Montana.

I LOVED Which Witch! But remember it more from the 70’s than 80’s. I grew up in a Denver suburb and every kid in our neighboorhood had it, and I think it was pretty popular in the 70’s. It was indeed a very cool game. I remember when you dropped the marble in the chimney it would go one of four places and possible knock your “kid” into oblivion. I’ve seen several of them on eBay. Enjoyed your page Matt.
